Chieko Nakano

Chieko Nakano is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Arizona. Originally from Tokyo, she is an Arizona Wildcat through and through. She came to the University of Arizona as an undergraduate, where she studied Philosophy and Media Arts, and later returned to earn her MA and PhD in East Asian Studies, specializing in Japanese religion and thought. She has been teaching at her alma mater since 2018, a wide variety of courses, mainly General Education courses on Japanese pop culture, Buddhism, and Introduction to Premodern East Asian cultures.

When she is not teaching, she can often be found taking care of her three goats – milking them and walking them in the neighborhood. She also enjoys cooking and sharing dishes with family and friends.
