Christine Hoekenga

Founding Coordinator

Christine Hoekenga is the founding coordinator of the Health Humanities Hub (H3), an innovative initiative from the University of Arizona College of Humanities, in collaboration with the Andrew Weil Center of Integrative Medicine and the College of Medicine - Tucson. She specializes in managing complex projects, developing impactful educational programs, mentoring students, and fostering strategic partnerships across disciplines in the public and nonprofit sector. This includes award-winning work at organizations as varied as the University of Arizona Health Sciences, NASA’s OSIRIS-REx Mission, Pima County, and the Smithsonian Institution. 

Christine holds a BA in Environmental Science and Rhetoric & Media Studies from Willamette University, an MS in Science Writing from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a graduate certificate in Business Intelligence and Analytics from Eller College of Management. She is a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association for Interpretation, a trained Dialogue Facilitator with the Center for Community Mediation and Facilitation, and member of the 2025-26 campus cohort for Bridging Differences in Higher Education Learning Fellowship with Berkley's Greater Good Science Center.

In her free time, Christine is a search and rescue volunteer and wilderness first responder with the Southern Arizona Rescue Association where she also serves as a mentor and team trainer in leadership, stress, and resilience.
