Suzanne Thompson

Associate Professor of Practice, Department of Russian and Slavic Studies

Suzanne Thompson begins her eighteenth year of teaching at UA in Fall 2026.  She has taught myriad courses in the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies during that time, including language, culture, and literature courses. She is also the Department's undergraduate advisor.  Suzanne earned her Master's in Russian from the Department in 2003.  Her Bachelor's degree is in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music.

Before joining the UA as an instructor, Suzanne worked in the Soviet Union and post-Soviet Russian Federation for many years: at the US Embassy in Moscow; for two terms at the US Department of Defense's Votkinsk Portal Monitoring Facility in Votkinsk, Udmurtiya, under the INF and START treaties; on the Cooperative Threat Program; and as a journalist at The Moscow Times newspaper.
